I want to share with you twelve thoughts I’ve had about success. These twelve thoughts are definitely random but they’re also important. Let’s get into it…
Here are 12 random thoughts on success:
1. Set healthy boundaries.
In order to reach success, you have to have and set healthy boundaries. As entrepreneurs, business owners, and sales professionals, we get bombarded with information, activities, busy work, and more. All of this noise can create obstacles for us and prevent us from being productive.
It is okay to say no. When you say no to someone else, you’re actually saying yes to yourself.
2. Realize it’s not about you.
As an entrepreneur, business owner, or sales professional, always remember that it’s not about you. It’s about them. We are service, solution, and product suppliers. If you make things about yourself, your product, your service, or your solution, you will miss the opportunity to connect their needs, wants, and desires to your product, service, or solution.
3. Avoid being comfortable.
Get out of your comfort zone. Avoid the comfort of certainty and security. Do things you’ve never done. Success lives just outside of where you’re comfortable.
4. Understand that everything is transactional.
Every prospective client’s engagement has some level of transaction in it. Any time that you’re meeting a prospective client, they are searching for a product, service, or solution that fills a need, want, or desire they have. While they are in pursuit of that, they are interacting with a multitude of companies or professionals. In each one of those interactions a transaction happens. Someone is buying and selling. You need to know which role you are in.
5. Understand the power of questions.
Talk about why vs. how. When people decided not to buy from you, think about asking them how instead of why. Any time we ask the question of why it allows them to make excuses. When you ask how it changes the answers dramatically.
Here’s an example: instead of asking why is this happening to me? Ask, how will this serve me?
6. People do things for their own reasons.
That’s right, people do things for their own reasons, not for yours. Their reasons might not make sense to you. You still need to be open to them and aware of them. Not everyone will think or operate like you. Therefore, you need to understand how others think and why.
7. People want and need to be educated.
Be an educator. Be a solution provider. Keep in mind, though, that people also want to be entertained. Allow yourself to add a little bit of joy into the lives of those you meet each day.
8. Your greatest success exists in your blind spots.
Your largest growth opportunities exist in what you don’t know that you don’t know. The only way you can move through those is to expose them. And the only way you can expose them is to constantly work on developing yourself and allow yourself to continually improve.
What are you willing to do about your blind spots?
9. Your success is attached to your hunger.
How hungry are you? Are you hungry to make an impact? Are you really showing up?
Your success and your ability to achieve it are directly related to your hunger.
10. Understand the language of success.
This is the language of mindset, skillset, and accountability. This is EQ – emotional intelligence. Have you really done the inner work? Have you done the necessary personal and professional development? Do you mastermind? Do you network?
The language of success is not one-size-fits-all. It’s about adapting, pivoting, and being flexible.
11. Clients will stay loyal if they like you.
Your potential and current clients will stay loyal to you if they like you. They will like you if they like the way you make them feel. They will like you because of how much you care. They will like you because of what you do for them and what you help them achieve.
12. Choice is a powerful thing and suffering is always optional.
Everything we do is a choice. Everything we accept or don’t accept is a choice. Everything we have or don’t have is a choice.
What are you choosing and what are you willing to do?
